The Victory Home:
Transportation
The
Japanese successes in the South Pacific cut off the West from its
rubber supply. In the US, gasoline rationing was introduced, primarily
to conserve tires by restricting automobile travel. The necessity of
transporting armed forces personnel as well as war workers put a strain
on the transportation system, and people were urged to forgo
unnecessary travel.
