The Victory Home:
Conservation
Some
wartime conservation was involuntary. The shift from producing consumer
goods
to war materials meant that people had to make their old appliances,
etc.,
last. At the same time, scrap drives collected metal, paper, tires, and
other
waste. Hoarding did go on, although it was considered unpatriotic.
